Beware of Family and Friends Impersonation Scams Especially From People on Vacation

Posted on January 29, 2013 | Filed in Featured, Security

An email like the one below was sent to me. This has happened once before so I am well aware that is is a scam.

A scammer/spammer gets access to someone’s email address book and then proceeds to send out emails such as below in an attempt to extract money from anyone who bothers to reply.

The scammer will ask you to send money for sure if you proceed with replying this email.

Job #1 should be to alert the person whose email address book has been compromised to secure their email and change passwords and also check all their computers for Malware.

I am writing this with tears in my eyes, my family and I came down here to Cardiff Wales, for a short vacation unfortunately, we were mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed, all cash, credit cards and cell were stolen off us but fortunately for us we still have our passports with us.

We have been to the embassy and the police here but they are not helping issues at all and our flight leaves in few hours from now but we’re having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager will not let us leave until we settle the bills.

Am freaked at the moment.

Thanks
